– Engine temperature sensor poor electrical connection
– Improper ignition timing
– Blocked radiator
Tech description
If the P0217 GMC code is present and there are no coolant leaks, start by servicing the coolant system and replacing the thermostat to resolve the problem.
What about the obd code?
Engine coolant temperature is excessively high under normal engine speed.
Symptoms
– Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
P0217 GMC Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the engine coolant temperature with the engine running. The P0217 GMC code is set when the temperature is higher than normal even and there is no heavy load to the engine.
